Changing the Button Color (IntelliPics Studio 3®, IntelliMathics 3® and InntelliTalk 3®)

(Before trying this tip in IPS3, check out the Button Actions tip to make sure you know how to make a page button. To use this tip with IM3 and IT3, you should know how to create a custom toolbar)

For both Page Buttons (IPS3) and Custom Toolbar buttons (all three apps), there is a wide choice of button styles. Control-click a Page Button or Custom Toolbar Button to open its Properties, and then click the Appearance tab.

The menu of Button Styles is in the lower right. The default button style, Beveled, and one other style, Flat, have the option of custom color. Scroll through the Button Styles to find these two choices.

To the lower left is the Colors choice box. You can change the text color for any button style here, and also colorize a graphic you have inserted into the button. You may have been puzzled by the third choice in the Colors area, Background. Its settings do not affect most of the button style at all, except for two special button styles, Beveled and Flat.

Choose either of these as the button style, then click the Change button beside Background. The Pick Color dialog will open. You can use the pull down menu to choose a standard color. The default choice is Custom, and that's the one you can set for any color you desire. While Custom is chosen in Pick Color, click the Other button. This opens the color adjustment controls.

Custom Colors

Try all of the color pickers. If you find a color you might want to use again, click in the long box at the top (current color) and drag down to one of the squares at the bottom. This saves your custom color. Click on any saved square to use it. When you have the color you want, click Okay. Note: Any colors you saved previously will be available to use in this button, and a color saved now will be there next time you open this dialog.
