Here is a chance to try out some of the SoftTouch®-based activities developed by Learning Magic. The files below are free for you to download. Most are books that open in My Own Bookshelf®, and there are also some tests that run in Test Me Score Me®.

Look for two tests from our What Do You Know... CD. There are also sample books from our book/test) collection Natural Disasters, The Animal Kingdom CD, and from The Nature Series CD.

 

Note that there are Bookreaders on this page to download and use if you do not yet own My Own Bookshelf®, but you will need Test Me Score Me® for the tests since there are no readers for that application.

Dakota And The Crab

This book is one of the eighteen books found on the Learning Magic Dakota’s Discoveries CD. In the book close up photographs and videos document the interaction between Dakota (a thirteen year old dog) and a very much alive six inch wide crab.

The Winter Storm

This book developed in My Own Bookshelf provides both photographs and written text regarding what occurs after a major storm. From snow plowing, to sledding to building a snowman, students will read about the activities that may occur after a major snowfall.

What Is A Mammal

This is one of the five phylum books from our The Animal Kingdom II CD.  In this book we examine the characteristics that make an animal a "mammal".  Photographs of over twenty land and marine mammals are included.

The Ostriches book takes a close up look at the largest bird in the world. Close-up photographs, videos bring these animals to life for students. This book can be used as a standalone book or as an addition to our popular “The Animal Kingdom”CD.

Blaze's Birthday

This book recounts the birthday party of Blaze, who is a twenty year old beagle. The book shows the activities at the birthday party (i.e. including the eating of large dog biscuit cake with peanut butter frosting) and many of the guests who came to wish Blaze a happy birthday.

At The Veterinary Office

This book takes the reader on a virtual field trip to the veterinary office where they visit the waiting room and then go into the examining room to see different animals go through their check-ups. Close up photographs show the different elements of a routine check up of a cockatiel, a dog and our cat Gus. This book can be a standalone or as an addition to our popular "The Magic Bookshelves" CD.

Wood Bison

The Wood Bison book takes a close up look at the largest of the North American land mammals. The book provides insights into where and how they live plus how they differ from the more commonly known American Buffalo. Close up photographs and videos bring these animals to life for students. Westward Expansion

Westward Expansion provides insights into the westward migration of settlers to the western part of the United States. Poor Roxy is a photographic based fictional book that recounts the travails of Roxy, a Chihuahua whose family moves from the sunny southwest to Canada. Armadillos

The Armadillos book takes a close up look at this interesting mammal that has migrated up from South America into the lower southern portions of the United States over the last century. The book provides both close up photographs and movies of these slow moving omnivores and their unusual habits. Clara Barton

The Clara Barton book recounts the three things for which most people remember Clara Barton. These are: working on the battlefields and assisting the wounded and sick during the Civil War, running the agency for missing soldiers after the Civil War, and helping found the American Red Cross. Roadrunners

"Roadrunners" provides insights into the life of the roadrunner in the North American deserts. The book includes a wide variety of pictures and short videos to show ths fast moving bird in its native environment. The Magic Hat

This book is an original story about a magician's visit to a classroom. In the story, the magician puts his hat upside down on the table, and challenges the kids in the class to guess what is in it. He proves that the most powerful magic is the mind, as the students use their imaginations to fill not only the hat but the entire classroom with wonderous things.

Dragonflies

Beautiful close-up photos teach readers about the characteristics of dragonflies, while the simple vocabulary makes the book suitable for beginning readers. Frogs

This book is a sort of bonus addition to The Animal Kingdom CD. It covers one set of animals from the class of amphibians, the frogs. Students will find out about the life history of frogs, their habits and behaviors, and meet a special group of very colorful frogs, the poison dart frogs. "Frogs" is written at a mid second grade to early third grade reading level. (Purple Star Level).

Hurricanes

Everyone is more aware of hurricanes after the severe and numerous storms last season. The Hurricanes book explores this severe weather phenomenon, using dramatic photos and appropriate sound effects.

Blizzards

Blizzards is a book that looks at this form of harsh winter storm. The child will hear appropriate sound effects on several pages and see pictures of the effects of this type of windstorm.
