The Comprehension CD is a collection of 36 finished activities (each presented in several delivery formats), and 11 templates for generating similar new activities. These materials were developed in response to requests by teachers and therapists for a series of flexible templates, along with a wide range of finished activities, that could help determine the level of comprehension in students, and at the same time improve their Reading, Listening and Observational comprehension.

This CD represents a year of intense development and research.

We have concentrated our efforts within the finished activities into three primary areas: Science, Social Studies, and a collection of original stories. This provides children with a wide range of original and interesting material to read, listen to, or observe.

The stories and other reading selections are written at a late second to fourth grade reading level, but the content is appealing and interesting for people of all ages. Templates and finished activities have built-in accessibility for IntelliKeys keyboards, switches and other alternative access devices. Behind the scenes, the activities capture all of the child's responses and a report is automatically generated so that the teacher can review a child's work and make well-informed decisions in support of classroom assessment and on-going instruction.

All activities include question pages with four choices, one of which is correct. The buttons on these pages collect the student responses for inclusion in an automatically generated report. Some activities have a single reading selection, followed by five question pages. Others break up the reading onto 10 pages, each followed by a single question. There are activities with text only, text and graphics, and even all auditory stories for listening comprehension. While there are 36 unique activities, each of the 31 text-based activities is presented in a version that reads text automatically and an alternate version in which a child clicks on the text to have it read aloud. Some activities are presented in a third delivery format so that they do not read text aloud, in order to assess silent reading comprehension.

In addition to finished activities, the Comprehension CD includes 11 simple-to-use templates, into which teachers and therapists can drop their own content, formulate appropriate questions and answers, and then capture and assess the student's answers and comprehension of the content. Templates are included for all the finished activity types described above.

In support of the templates and activities, tutorials (Word and PDF format) and other documentation are provided to assist you in the use of the activities and templates. The activities will run with the IntelliTools Classroom Suite Player® but data recording, creating new activities with the templates or modifying the finished activities requires the full version of IntelliPics Studio 3®. Note: Due to size constraints, we left the Players off the Comprehension CD. If you need Players, contact us at (Subject: Players) and we will send them to you, or indicate that you need the Players when you fill out the printed order form.
