Cheetahs LauncherThe Bonus - Cheetahs mini-unit opens with a launcher that includes buttons to open its two gridsets, Cheetahs and the comprehension gridset What Do You Know About Cheetahs? This unit is an add-on to "Exploring the Savanna".

The Cheetahs book describes the daily life of this beautiful big cat, a successful predator on the savanna because it is the the fastest animal on land. Photos and videos, like the one that plays on this page, bring the life of the cheetah alive for students.

Question pages throughout the book encourage students to think about the content and express themselves while the experience is fresh in their minds, as they write their answers into Clicker Writer.

Bonus - Desert Plants

Desert Plants launcher

The Bonus - Desert Plants mini-unit opens with a launcher that includes buttons to open its two gridsets, Desert Plants, and the comprehension gridset What Do You Know About Desert Plants?

This unit adds depth to "Exploring the Desert" by focusing on the extreme adaptations that plants such as the ocotillo and the cactus have made to survive in the dry conditions of the desert biome.

Students go on a walk through a North American desert area as they learn about the different survival strategies of plant groups such as xerophytes, phreatophytes, annuals, perennials, and ephemerals.

This cactus photo introduces students to one of the groups, xerophytes, that have changed their physical structure to protect themselves from the sun and from animals that might otherwise eat them for both the nutrients and water they contain.
