Ready to Write Stories

Ready To Write Stories are templates with the story framework already there. The title page includes a space for the author's name and a suggested story line. Photographic animated characters walk through moving scenery on each page, then a text box appears in which students write their own ideas about the action. To create the sound track of the "movie", there are two choices. In the simpler Talking version of the stories, the students' words are read out automatically by the computer at the end of the animation. In the more advanced Recorded version, students record themselves reading each page. With either option, students save their own animated story complete with sound!

There are five different animated stories, with five different moving characters. Moving photo backgrounds include a wide variety of interesting subjects to inspire students' creativity. Scroll down to see the title page and a typical writing page from each story. Click the Download button at the end of the page to download a sample story. If your internet connection is slow, the fourteen photos on this page may take several minutes to load.

The following two pages are from a sample story by Andrew, a 6 year old boy. You can enjoy both samples on the CD!

Hey, Annie, let's go to the mountainsMr. Rabbit, do you know...

As a bonus set of writing templates, there are also five Ready To Write postcards on the CD. These are essentially one page stories, and might be a good first project for a student. Girl and Victorian house postcard

There are two activities in the Goodies section created from the Toolkit. Click here to read about and download Roscoe in the Desert - Template, which was made using the New Story template. Then a student, Jimmy, used the Roscoe template to write his own story, which you can read about and download right here.
To fully appreciate the animated stories, you should see the animation. The scenery in these pages moves from left to right as the story characters walk, so that the reader's viewpoint is the same as the travelers. Each animated character is made up of many photographic frames, so that the movement is natural and amazingly realistic. To download a demo story, CLICK HERE. (Note: The sample story pages are one-quarter size, in order to minimize download time.)
