Addition and Subtraction templates provide an opportunity for teachers to develop their own sets of activities wherein children can practice adding and subtracting objects in ranges from 6 to 10.

The Suitcase Series

The Suitcase Series CD contains over one hundred and thirty activities targeted at early learners in grades kindergarten through second grade as well as special needs students. The language arts/literacy section provides instructional activities include in the areas of vocabulary building, initial letter identification, spelling by finding the missing letters in words, and finding or identifying specific words and unscrambling letters to make words.

In the mathematics area a wide array of activities in different formats provide instruction in number identification, counting, addition and subtraction as well as reading.

In the early learning section activities include instructional materials on painting/coloring, spatial concepts, creating scenes, patterns, sorting and additional vocabulary/reading instruction.

The Writing Bin CD is a collection of thirty finished activities and seven templates for generating similar new activities.

A picture bank included in all writing templates enables students to insert a picture to write about onto the page. The varying formats of the templates provide built-in vocabulary support that can be tailored to meet individual student needs. The template with the most scaffolding includes four toolbars, each providing up to ten word choices in the areas of common sight words, nouns, verbs and adjectives.

Finished activities fall into a variety of curricular areas including life skills, science, social studies, geography and community involvement and range from the first through the fourth grade reading level. The text is based upon national curriculum standards at each grade level for both the subject content and vocabulary.

The Writing Bin - Early Skills

The Writing Bin - Early Learning Two CD Collection contains one hundred seventy finished activities and seven new easy-to-use templates that have been designed to assist early writers. Through the development process we worked with industry experts and focus groups to develop a continuum of writing templates that help early writers move from errorless writing up to writing their own sentences with limited support.

At the lowest cognitive level, when a picture within a toolbar is clicked on by the student, the picture is automatically inserted on the page, and a sentence is written in a textbox and read aloud to the student. Truly errorless writing!

At the highest cognitive level, a student clicks on a picture to insert it on the page. They are then presented with a “model sentence” describing that picture. At the bottom of the screen the student is presented with a wordbank of words which will allow them to click on the words and create their own sentences. In some cases the words in the wordbank will be in the correct order to create the sentence. In other cases the words will be scrambled.

The two CDs’ finished activities provide writing opportunities in a wide variety of curricular areas including science, social studies, life skills and much more. A number of the focus group members have stated to us that not only will the finished activities provide wonderful writing opportunities for their students, but they will also provide a means for alternative assessment for many of their children.

Over a hundred activities support three stories from the printed book Reading Activities Project for older Students (R.A.P.S.), originally developed by Southwest Human Development and edited by Dr. Caroline Musselwhite.

Each of the core stories has associated computer activities organized into four sets based upon a balanced literacy approach.
