Snails Unit

Note: This is an integrated unit, including three gridsets: a launcher grid, Snails (the anchor book), and What Do You Know About Snails? The folder MUST be copied and pasted as a whole. See included the How to Install document for details. You can also download this document here.

Snails

Students launch the unit and first open the anchor book, Snails. The Snails book takes a close-up look at the common garden snail (i.e. its physical characteristics and its behaviors).

Both up close photography and videos bring home the unique characteristics of this gastropod.

Students will not only be able to see the snail move along on its slimy foot but they will be able to see the snail look around using its eyes, which are positioned on the top of its long eyestalks.

Students will also learn how the snail protects itself against hot weather and why it is considered a pest by most people.

Come along and read how slime is beneficial in many ways to this animal's existence.

What Do You Know About Snails?

After reading about the common garden snail in the Snails book, children have an opportunity to show what they have learned and know about these common mollusks.

They return to the launcher grid and open What Do You Know About Snails?

Three photographs from the original book are interspersed with nine questions regarding the snail's physical characteristics and its behaviors.

Students click on a pop-up grid to choose from four possible answers and insert their answer choice for each question. An accompanying answer sheet for teachers is also included with the gridset.
