Fire and Firefighting unit

Note: This is an integrated unit. The folder MUST be copied and pasted as a whole. See included the How to Install document for details. You can also download this document here.

This study unit is comprised of two related gridsets, the anchor reading book Fire and Firefighting, a writing template. The opening launcher screen gives students access to the two gridsets. The following is an overview of two books.

Fire

This reading book provides students with a close-up look at a fire and how firefighters fight the fire. Sound effects (fire engine soundtrack), numerous photographs and short videos provide the student with a vivid view of what it is like to fight a major fire.

Children are able to see and observe how firefighters attack a fire from both above the fire and from the ground floor up.

The scenes bring home the danger and the damage that is caused by major fires.

Reading content is written at a second to third grade reading level.

Firefighting

This is a companion book to the Fire reading book. In the Firefighting book, students are reminded through pictures and text about what they read in the Fire book.

They are then provided with two opportunities to write about what they have seen and learned in the form of two pages with questions to answer in Clicker Writer.

In this book, picture and word support is provided in the grid below the Clicker Writer writing areas as assistance to the creative writing process.
