Fishing The River

Fishing the River Cover

The "Fishing The River" activity was developed using one of the templates from the Learning Magic The Writing Bin CD .

In this activity students take a narrative based virtual field trip to a fast flowing river where they learn some of the basics about fishing in a river.

As they enter the river, students are able to watch a fisherman navigate the river in "waders" while fishing with a combination of lures and flies. Students are taken virtually into the fast flowing waters where they are cautioned to be careful.

They also learn about the need to attach lures or flies to their fishing lines, how to cast and position the lures in the water as they fish (i.e. letting the line sink to the bottom of the river).

Students also experience the sounds and feel of the river through a series of high quality movies and short videos.

In the end, students also learn that you can have fun fishing even though you don't catch a fish.
