Fort Clatsop Writing is an activity that begins with nine pages of basic information regarding the Lewis & Clark expedition and their experiences at Fort Clatsop on the Pacific Ocean. The children have the opportunity watch movies, look at photographs of the fort and read about the expedition's experiences at the fort. For more background on Fort Clatsop, you might also download The Corps At Fort Clatsop, an activity by students from a field trip to the fort. |
The children then get to write about what they have learned. On the next ten pages they choose pictures in any order they like from a toolbar of pictures and then write about each photo. The pictures are the identical to the pictures on the cover and the subsequent nine pages of reading material they have studied in the reading portion. |

As the child clicks on a picture it is inserted into the page, the toolbar closes, and the child is presented with a textbox to write in. A vocabulary words toolbar and on-screen keyboard provide extra support for students who need additional assistance in their writing. There is also an IntelliKeys® overlay for this activity. The Fort Clatsop Writing activity utilizes one of Learning Magic's new writing templates that we are designing in conjunction with Susan Norwell and others. |
