Fall Leaves

There are six activities in the folder. Two are at an Easy level, two at a beginning level and two at an advanced level. At each level there is a reading and a writing activity. There are attached custom IntelliKeys overlays for all these activities. You will need Overlay Maker 3 to print the overlays.

At the easy level, there is a simple animated book that shows leaves falling and describes them as different colors etc. This book is written at approximately first to early second grade level.

An activity built in the IntelliTools 3.2 version of the Easy Writing template employs the language of the animated book to provide an errorless writing experience.

The beginning level book provides a clear and hopefully concise explanation of what is happening within leaves and trees as the leaves grow, turn colors and fall off (i.e. in deciduous trees), without getting into a lot of scientific jargon. The book was created in the Learning Magic Electronic Storybook template. The vocabulary level is late second to third grade.

The beginning writing activity parallels that discussion and provides a simple way to write using words and phrases inserted from toolbars. It is based on the supported Writing in Science Template - 3.2 version.

The Advanced book provides a more scientific explanation of photosynthesis, chlorophyll etc. The same basic photos are used in the two higher level books but the textual content differs. Reading level is in the 3-5 grade range.

Fall Leaves Advanced Book
Fall Leaves Advanced Writing

The advanced writing activity is on a conventional level where we ask the kids to write about what is happening in each picture as it relates to leaves and trees. There are four seasonal pictures (i.e. green leaves/buds in spring; leaves and fruit in summer; colored leaves in fall; and bare snow covered limbs in winter).

The child is to write about what is happening in each season. While this is definitely a more conventional level writing activity, there is an on-screen keyboard if needed, which is part of the Learning Magic MyBook template.

Note: Kathy Staugler from the WCO-SERRC in Wapakoneta, Ohio was initially involved in the brainstorming and design of these activities. The Easy level animated book was based on her initial drawings and powerpoint presentation.

Activities were built in v. 3.2 Required Software: IntelliPics Studio 3.2® and IntelliTalk 3.2®.
