Butterfly House Writing

This activity was developed in one of the new templates that will be available on the Learning Magic, Inc. Writing Bin CD later this year. It is a companion activity to the Butterfly House Adventure which is also available in the Goodies section. After children have traveled through the butterfly house in the adventure activity, they have the opportunity to write about what they seen and learned about tropical butterflies and the rainforest environment.

In the Butterfly House Writing activity, two introductory pages explain the writing assignment. Then the child is provided with a button which when clicked will display eight pictures that they have seen in the adventure activity.

Clicking on one of the pictures inserts it in as the background picture for that page. Children then have the opportunity to write about their recollections and knowledge of the butterflies and their environment in the textbox provided on each page.

An on-screen keyboard is available to provide writing assistance for scanners. Word prediction can also be used with this activity if it has been enabled in the student's preferences. A custom overlay is attached for use with IntelliKeys®.

This activity was built in Classroom Suite v. 3.2. The activity can be run on the ITAN Player. But IntelliPics Studio 3® is needed to perform data capture, automatic grading and portfolio management, as well as any editing or changes to the activity itself.
