Vehicle Addition to 6

Vehicle Addition to 6 is based upon the NEW Learning Magic addition template which not only tracks the correct number of objects in the counting boxes but also checks to make sure that the objects in the counting boxes are the correct objects based upon the text box scenario. In this example, the text states that four jeeps and two corvettes are available for sale at an audition. The child first is instructed to place four jeeps in the left counting box, then two corvettes in the middle counting box. After that they are to place the total number of vehicles in the right-most counting box using the correct objects and finally to write the equation below.

The activity has self checking for the child and has automatic data collection and reporting if you own a copy of IntelliMathics 3®. The activity will also run on the IntelliTools Classroom Suite player but data collection, portfolio management, automatic grading and reporting are not available with the player. A custom IntelliKeys® overlay is provided for this activity.

If you look at the screenshot, you will see that the child has the correct number of objects in each counting box and has written the equation correctly. The leftmost star is displayed to reflect the accuracy of their answers. However in the case of the middle counting box, the child was asked to place two corvettes in the counting box, and since they have one jeep and one corvette, they receive a red "X" in the blue border to reflect the sorting error.

The child can correct that answer if they check their own work. If using the IntelliMathics 3®, the reporting system will track both the first answer and subsequent edits and list these in the report which teachers and other interested parties can view.
