American Bald Eagles

With spring just around the corner, we have had an influx of American bald eagles here in the Northwest and many of the children we work with are fascinated by these magnificient birds. As a result, we have been doing some field study of the birds and their habits and rituals. The result of this work is an IntelliPics Studio 3®- based activity which provides lots of photos of the birds in their natural habitat, along with information regarding their history in North America, their feeding, their nesting, and their mating habits. We also look closely at the bald eagle's characteristics and traits including eyesight, hearing, feathers/color, talons, and beak.

At the end of the 20+ page activity, the children also get to write about the American bald eagle. An accompanying IntelliTalk 3® activity (based upon the IntelliTalk 3® Writing in Science template) is connected with the original background activity.

It was truly amazing to watch these magnificent birds in an up-close and personal way. You can quickly see why our forefathers chose them as the symbol for the freedom and spirit of America.
