![]() enlarge image | This activity was created using one of the scaffolded writing templates from the Learning Magic, Inc The Writing Bin CD. In originally creating the CD and in our work subsequent to its release we have been working with a number of educators to create a wide variety of activities that provides both a fundamental exposure to a subject and then the opportunity for students to write about it in a supported environment. Modern Art is an activity created for three upper elementary classrooms. It provides a brief narrative of a trip to a museum where students might be receiving their first exposure to modern art (i.e. paintings that don't quite resemble every day things). |
| Once they have the opportunity to view a few examples, the activity's directions take them back to the classroom where they get to choose six out of twelve new paintings (i.e. inserting the chosen picture on a page and then writing about the painting using the built-in vocabulary toolbar support). In working in a number of classrooms with this activity, the students' imaginations and creative explanations of the art has been interesting to see and read. Note: students can 'read' what they have written throughout all of The Writing Bin templates and activities which aids in editing and better overall writing. |
