Downloading Goodies

All the Goodies are in .zip format, which must be downloaded, saved, and extracted. The Photos archives also need to be downloaded and saved, and then extracted. The process of getting the Goodies activities into your IntelliTools®, SoftTouch®, or Crick Software® application is threefold.

First, you must download and actually save to your hard drive, not simply open, the .zip archive file of the Goodie.

Second, you must extract the archive so that you then have a second file, which is the uncompressed version. In the case of Goodies, this will usually be a folder with several files in it.

Finally, you must get the Goodie into the application in which it runs. You will know which one to use by the Required Software notice at the bottom of the Goodie description on the web site. What you do for the third step depends on which application you are using. The three possibilities are:

FOR INTELLITOOLS-based Goodies: Run your IntelliTools application, either Classroom Suite or the ITAN Player® (if you have purchased one of our CDs) , and IMPORT the activity into it from the Navigation Screen. Double-clicking on a file to open it will not work, as you would not be installing any attached files, such as movies, and this method in general does not always launch the correct application.

For SOFTTOUCH-based Goodies (applications My Own Bookshelf® and Test Me Score Me®): Launch the application, click Publish, and follow the instructions. You will navigate into the book or test folder and indicate the actual book or test. This will be a file with the .dir extension.

For CLICKER 5-based Goodies (Crick Software): You will copy the gridset or the integrated study unit folder into the Clicker 5 shared files folder. A document is included with every Clicker-based Goodie giving detailed instructions, or you can download it right here.

Note: The downloading and extraction portions of this guide apply to all Goodies, regardless of the applications in which they run.

Windows XP has a built-in Wizard for extracting zip files. Alternatively, you can download an evaluation version of WinZip at: http://www.winzip.com/downwzeval.htm For Macintosh®, the StuffIt! Expander can extract zip files, and you can download an evaluation copy of StuffIt! including the free Expander at: http://www.stuffit.com/mac/expander/index.html

We hope that these tips will solve any problems you may encounter. While we would like to be at your side while you complete the download and import processes, there are only two of us. We need to have time to support our products and develop new activities for you, so we cannot offer more extensive tech support for Goodies. Please consult your computer manuals and browser help for more information on download settings, and the manuals and online help in your IntelliTools and other applications software for difficulties in importing activities. Thank you for trying our Goodies!
