Learning Magic is proud to announce the release of a new line of software that was developed, and runs in, Crick Software, Inc.'s Clicker 5® v. 5.2 for Windows. Our first offering is actually eight related products, a collection of integrated study units covering different biomes.

The Wonders and Magic of Nature collection includes eight educational units focused on delivering supplemental curriculum that helps to meet and exceed the national standards for learning in the areas of Earth and Life Science. Each study unit is comprised of multiple gridsets and runs in Clicker 5® as a mini application.

The eight study sets are available individually, in two sets of four biome units each (Ecosystems Collection A and Ecosystems Collection B), and as the full collection of eight units. Each of those items can be purchased in single computer, 5 installs, and 30 installs configurations in the lower section of this page.

Exploring the Coral Reef

Students find out about coral polyps and how they grow and die to form the coral reef, and get an introduction to the diverse life that inhabits the reef. Follow-on books take them on a scuba adventure and focus on one of the fascinating animals often found hiding in the reef, the octopus. Diagrams illustrating the coral polyp, close-up photos such as those of the octopus, and dramatic videos such as one of a great white shark add to this vivid experience. Writing, comprehension, and sorting gridsets round out the unit.

Exploring the Desert

Students explore the deserts of the world, both hot and cold deserts, as they find out about the adaptations the plants and animals have made to survive the dry conditions of this biome. The anchor book describes deserts in Africa, Asia, North and South America, and Australia. Next, in the Hiking the Desert Adventure, videos of creatures ranging from gila monsters to butterflies and beautiful photos of the animals, scenery and flora bring the environment alive as students explore on their own. A third book focuses on the daily activities of a colony of meerkats. Writing, comprehension, and sorting gridsets round out the unit.

Exploring the Oceans

The anchor book takes students from the surface through the twilight zone and down to the abyss as they learn about oceans, the largest ecological zone on our planet. Diagrams explain how oceanographers map the deep ocean floor. With this background, students take an Ocean Research Adventure, in which interactive videos make them feel like they are on board the research vessel listening to scientists exploring the depths using remotely operated submersibles. A third book focuses on the vast array of marine life, with chapters on invertebrates, fish, and marine mammals. Writing, comprehension, and sorting gridsets round out the unit.

Exploring the Tropical Rainforest

Students learn about the hot and humid world of the tropical rainforest from the emergent layer down to the forest floor. On the way they find out about the fascinating and varied animals, birds and insects that live at each level. They explore at their own pace in A Rappelling Adventure, using a zipline and platforms to access each layer and observe the wildlife close up. Exploring the Savanna

Exploring the Taiga Forest

The anchor book for the unit introduces students to the dense northern forests of the taiga biome, and its abundant wildlife. Students have a chance in the Hummingbirds book to observe a hummingbird nest over several weeks as the mother hummingbird hatches her eggs and feeds her babies. Wonderful videos and photos let students see everything up close. In the third book, Grizzly Bear Country, they go on a hike to observe much bigger residents of the taiga forest, grizzly bears, as they fish for salmon. Exploring the Tundra

In this unit students learn about the smallest of the eight biomes, the cold and harsh wastes of the tundra. Photos illustrate the adaptations of the animals and vegetation, including the carpet of tiny tundra plants that have only a few short days to grow each year and may be a hundred years old. Students get a real feel for this environment in the Trekking Across The Tundra Adventure, where sounds of the wind accompany them as they hike to the coast. The third book focuses on Polar bears and how the warming conditions in the polar regions are making it difficult for them to swim out to the ice floes to find food. Dramatic photos show how these animals have adapted perfectly to the icy northern biome. Writing, comprehension, and sorting gridsets round out the unit.

Ecosystems Collection A

Ecosystems Collection A includes four of the study units: Oceans, Tropical Rainforest, Taiga, and Wetlands. In addition to these four units, there are two bonus mini-units with two gridsets each. These are Camouflage, which covers various camouflage strategies used by animals from insects up to zebras, and Food Chains and Food Webs. This second unit explores the interlocking network of producers and consumers, and is a good follow-on unit for all the biomes.
